Why do traditional cell modeling activities fail?
In science, what do we mean by fair?
How are the trillions of cells in a human body able to cooperate successfully as a decentralized, spontaneous system?
How can cells with identical DNA differentiate and specialize within a multicellular organism?
What does it mean for something to be alive?
All my cells have the same DNA — why does that matter?
Why did some organisms evolve to be multicellular?
How are cells involved in disease?

Teachers told us that what they learn in professional development workshops gets hazy months later when it is time to teach the unit. To address this gap, we've embedded just-in-time overviews right next to the relevant lesson, where teachers can refreshing knowledge and review (or, in some cases, learn) critical science content. Teacher Tune-ups also flag common challenges students have with the subject matter. The tune-ups also explore a bit of the hidden iceberg—content beyond what middle school students are expected to learn, so that teachers feel ready for a wide range of student capacities.
Many of the Teacher Tune-ups have been written by faculty in teacher education programs who have science expertise and excellent reputations among teaching candidates.
