ACTIVITY OVERVIEW
Pre-writing discussion (10 minutes)
:
If you use a better machine to get more work done with less effort, is it fair to get paid more? Or should you get paid less?
Read and discuss slides as a class.
Writing time (20 minutes)
Students are challenged to take a stand on whether or not someone using a more efficient tool (a crowbar) should be paid more than someone using a tool that requires more work (a hammer). Emphasize that that there is no correct answer, but they should write persuasively stating their opinion clearly and provide supporting arguments. Also reiterate that they need to include scientific ideas about work and force.
