WRITING: Learning from Magadi to help Natron?

Reporter Patrick Mgunza of prepared this video to explain a problem that is occurring at Lake Magadi that is causing difficulty for the soda ash processing plant there.

First, open this transcript of his report (PDF). Then, carefully watch and listen to his video and highlight words and phrases in the transcript that you do not know. Mr. Mgunza uses academic and scientific language in his report that you will also be able to use in later in your writing assignment.

As a class, share challenging words and phrases from the transcript on the board. One student will share definitions from an online dictionary as you you go through the list and consider and discuss the context of each word. Agree on short, concise definitions as a class and then move on to the next word or phrase.
