Flamingos in a Fix
RETIRED BETA VERSION - For current versions of the SciGen materials, please visit serpmedia.org/scigen
High school junior Francisco Hudson is the narrator of this light-hearted look at the serious problem that flamingos face at Lake Natron in Tanzania. Like many science videos, All Paradise? The Habitat of the Lesser Flamingo presents a lot of important scientific information very quickly.
Today, you will use the technique of “scrubbing” video. This is a term used by video professionals that means moving back and forth within the video while the file in still open. As you become more skilled at scrubbing, note-taking and locating specific information within videos becomes much easier.
Orient yourself to the video:
Below are eleven images from the video. You will be using the images and the information in the video to create a set of Cornell Notes about Lake Natron as a breeding ground for the lesser flamingos. Your first column will contain the cue phrases already listed below. Your job will be to complete your notes by finding the place in the video that matches the images and the time stamp and then listening carefully to the narration (several times if necessary) to get the information you need. Use your own lab notebook or document. A template is also available here. (Google Doc)
