WRITING

Before we had the technology of the modern world, our communication systems were simple things, like smoke signals and Morse code. The telephones used during most of the 20th century turned the sounds of the human voice into analog electrical signals that were sent over telephone lines. Today, mobile phones change our voices into digital data that is transmitted on the electromagnetic spectrum to cellular towers to satellites and back down to Earth again.

Imagine you have to write a manual for how to rebuild civilization from scratch, including figuring out a way to transmit information across vast distances. Apply what you know about waves to suggest a way to rebuild a regional, continental, and/or global communication system. Provide clues from the best technologies we use in our current society, including what you have learned about the nature of waves.
